Micah Richards: Tackling Racism Wins 2 Industry Awards

Former England footballer Micah Richards leads this powerful documentary for Sky, which exposes the true scale of racism in British football while searching for solutions

Co-produced by New Stance, the film follows the former Manchester City defender as he lifts the lid on the ongoing problem of racism in the game.

While aiming to uncover areas of the game that are affected by racism, the objective at the heart of the documentary is to seek real answers and achievable targets to make football safer and more inclusive for all.

We worked closely with Kick It Out, English football’s equality and inclusion organisation, throughout the making of the film.

Behind the scenes, we filled many key positions with alumni of the MAMA Youth Project, which aims to get young people from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds employed in the broadcast and media industries.

Sports Broadcast Awards: Best Sports Documentary of The Year

“It was apparent in the way the subject matter was approached and handled that this was made by those from diverse backgrounds,” said one judge.

“This is an outstanding documentary,” said another. “It was emotional and educational, with brilliant access to Micah and his life dealing with racism in football. This film leaves a lasting impact.”
